Try these expert-endorsed games and activities designed to support the physical health of toddlers.
Young children are an energetic bunch. They require plenty of opportunities for free movement and floor play. After all, paediatricians recommend that toddlers get at least half an hour of structured physical activity every day. They also recommend at least an hour of active play daily.
To help meet toddlers' movement needs, here are some indoor and outdoor activities for young children:
Whether rain or shine, spend at least 15 minutes outdoors with your children.
Go on a “photo safari”. While on a walk in the park or around the neighbourhood, let your toddler tell you what to photograph, and see the world through their eyes.
Try playing games where you toss, kick or roll balls and beanbags “back-and-forth” with your child. This supports turn-taking.
Get creative indoors. For instance, you could pretend that blocks are “cupcakes”. Then, challenge your toddler to pick the “cupcakes” up with tongs and transfer them into a cupcake tin.
Have your toddler help out with household chores. Whether your child wipes down tables and chairs or pushes a laundry basket in front of the dryer, they will get a great workout.
